We recently celebrated our 15 Year Anniversary. In March 1996, Rob Richards and Rupel Ruparelia settled into new desks at a leading Canadian investment dealer to manage about $35 million of their clients' assests. Their mission was to implement the investment philosophy that Rob had distilled from twenty-five years of first-hand observations of the best and worst practices of money managers in Canada and in the United States.
Heathbridge now has nine employees and manages assets of about $350 million for some 155 families. Our investment philosophy is branded Checkmark Investing and has done well. As you can see in the chart below, the return of our average equity account over 15 years exceeded 11 percent per year after fees -- three percentage points above our benchmark. Had you invested $1 million with us in 1996, 15 years later it would have been worth nearly $5 million.
